Whilst David’s Dad took his brother off to football matches, David stayed with Mum on a Saturday while she baked for the week ahead, helping and watching intently as she created a delicious assortment of cakes.
It was not long before David was following in his Mums cake making footsteps!
16 year old David receives student of the year award and is presented with The Renshaw Cup
Completing 2 years of training in bakery and food technology, David achieved City and Guilds with Distinctions, received the student of the year award and was also presented with The Renshaw Cup plus an all expenses paid scholarship to attend the world famous Richemont Bakery School in Lucerne Switzerand.
19 year old David starts his new business ‘David Cakes of Distinction’ initially from a converted back lounge at his family home
After working 2 years at a large retail bakery near London, a strong entrepreneurial itch persisted and in 1981 David returned home to pursue his life long dream of opening his own cake store business.
David Cakes was launched in 1983 with prestigious national training and television business awards soon to follow.
Still going strong at the age of 54, David is a judge on international reality TV series CAKEWALK currently screening on Amazon Prime UK and USA
39 years later, after a glittering career, David has had the honour of creating 2 Royal Wedding Cakes, travelled the world, appeared as a judge on an international cake decorating reality TV series and continues to share his passion for cake decorating to students who travel to Liverpool to master his creative technique.
